Microsoft announced on their Windows 7 home page that Windows 7 Beta is available for download for limited time to the first 2.5 million people.

If you are not the lucky one who has got their hands on copy Windows 7 through Microsoft Developer program then here is your chance to download Windows 7 beta release. The 32 bit version of Windows 7 beta download is available in five languages: English, German, Japanese, Hindi, and Arabic. The 64-bit Windows 7 beta version is available in English, German, Japanese, and Arabic only.

How to Windows 7 Download:

I tried downloading Windows 7 beta from Firefox it didn’t worked, so make sure you have internet explorer installed to begin downloading Windows 7 beta release. The Windows beta 7 ISO is 2.43 GB in size so depending upon your download speed it could take several hours. The Windows 7 Beta will expire on August 1, 2009. To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date. I hope final version of Windows 7 should be out by mid July sometime this year, I would watch for July 4th 2009.

  1. Go to Windows 7 beta Microsoft home page to begin download. Select beta download and scroll down to “Get the download” section and select your version of Windows 7 beta downloads – 32 bit or 64 bit and click on Go.
  2. Make sure you are accessing Windows 7 beta download link using Microsoft internet explorer browser, download will be run through ActiveX application. I was able to download Windows 7 beta using internet explorer version 7 , i am not sure if this works for internet explorer <7 or with internet explorer 8 beta.
  3. Go to download link and click on download now.
  4. Clicking on download now button will start windows 7 beta download in download manager, relax and wait for download to finish.

After download complete you can try installing Windows 7 beta on a PC or you can install Windows 7 beta as a virtual machine. I have successfully completed Windows 7 beta installation on VMware Workstation 6 running on Windows Vista Ultimate.
