One fine morning when i was booting my Dell running Windows Vista ultimate i didn’t realize that a surpise is waiting for me. I opened my DELL Studio 17 Laptop and powered it on guess what…. Windows Vista running on my Dell laptop failed to boot and i was greeted with this error message :

NTLDR is missing

I tried powering back it off and on several times but i had same NTLDR is missing error.I am not sure what caused this error but that defineltly sounds like there is something wrong with Master Boot record (MBR). I had Windows Vista ulitmate installation DVD close to me so i thought of fixing this error by booting it from DVD media. Here is how i was able to fix the NTLDR is missing error :

Fixing NTLDR is missing in Windows Vista :

1.Insert the Microsoft Windows Vista installation DVD disc in the DVD drive, and then start the Laptop.
2.Press a key when you are prompted and Select language, time, keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
3.Select Repair your computer
4.Select the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
6.To Fix NTLDR is missing error in Command prompt type this command and hit ENTER:

bootrec /FixBoot

That’s was really quick to get my Windows Vista Laptop back to life. Unlike Microsoft Windows XP i didn’t see any NTLDR or NTDETCT.COM files on Windows Vista. Windows Vista is different compared to XP, i remember NTLDR missing error in Windows XP where you can simply copy these two files to fix the issue.I just want to point out things have been changed in Windows Vista and for those who are still in hangover with Windows XP they will find little surprising to see new command to fix NTLDR is missing error.
